Ferrari will unveil two new roadsters later this
month and the first image of the 812 Superfast Spider has surfaced on social
media. Apparently taken at a private unveiling, the picture shows the car
largely follows in the footsteps of the coupe. However, there are significantly
changes aft of the A-pillar as the roadster has a revised greenhouse and what
appears to be two large buttresses behind the seats.
Of course, the biggest change is the roof. It’s not
entirely clear if the model has a removal roof panel or a retractable hard top,
but the 812 Superfast Spider provides an open air experience that fans should
love. Like the coupe, the spider should have a 6.5-liter V12 engine that
produces 789 hp and 718 Nm of torque. It will be
connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that sends power to the
rear wheels.
The coupe accelerates from 0-100 km/h in
2.9 seconds and has a top speed of 340 km/h. However, roadsters typically
weigh more than their coupe counterparts and aren’t as aerodynamic. As a
result, we wouldn’t be surprised if the 812 Superfast Spider is slightly slower
to 100 km/h and has lower top speed.
Ferrari is skipping the Frankfurt Motor Show, but the
car is expected to be unveiled shortly. It should be joined by an F8 Spider
that features a twin-turbo 3.9-liter V8 engine with 710 hp and 770 Nm of torque. This should enable the model to accelerate
from 0-100 km/h in approximately 2.9 seconds.
