Mercedes-Benz has revealed that its long-awaited
Maybach SUV will be unveiled in November. The Mercedes-Maybach GLS was
previewed by the Ultimate Luxury Concept last year, which had a unique shape
that was a mix between a sedan and a more traditional SUV. However, recent spy
shots of prototypes indicate that the production car will be more similar in
shape to the regular GLS, albeit outfitted with a host of distinctive parts
both inside and outside.
In a press release detailing the Maybach brand, the
German car manufacturer confirmed that the Maybach GLS will feature many of the
same luxurious components as the S-Class. These will include a high-end
Burmester 3D surround sound system, and while we don’t yet know exact details
about it, the one in the Maybach S-Class features no less than 27 speakers, 24
separate amplifier channels and a total output of 1590 watts. Expect similar or
identical specs in the GLS.
In addition, Mercedes-Benz says it has given the
Maybach GLS “its own signature fragrance suited to the SUV-specific interior
and traveling experience”. “The white osmanthus blossom, floral and light, is
rounded off by a gentle leather note and spicy tea. This elegant blend is on a
bed of natural greenery,” the press release continues – and that sure is some
way to describe the aroma of a plush SUV.
One in seven new S-Class models sold are Maybachs,
and Merc will hope to achieve the same feat with the GLS. According to reports,
the luxury SUV could be offered with both a twin-turbo, 4.0-liter V8 and a
twin-turbo 6.0-liter V12.
