The Volkswagen Tayron – essentially a China-only SUV technically identical with the Tiguan which debuted last fall – will be getting an SUV Coupe variant later this year. Following the debut of the original Volkswagen SUV Coupe Concept this spring, the German automotive giant submitted several images of the finished production car to the China Patent Bureau.

Based on the photos, the Tayron SUV Coupe will be an almost complete copy of its concept counterpart. Compared to the standard Tayron, the newcomer is 3 millimeters shorter, but 25 mm taller (length: 4,586 mm , height: 1,635 mm).

The currently available VW Tayron ships with a 1.4-liter turbo-four engine rated at 150 hp and 250 Nm and its larger 2.0l counterpart capable of 220 hp and 350 Nm. The transmission is seven-speed DCT, and you can even choose between FWD and AWD. Finally, a hybrid version based on the 1.4l unit is available with 218 hp total. When it ships, the SUV Coupe will likely be limited to 2.0 liters of displacement and AWD. Sales should begin before the end of the current year.
