Two years after it was introduced in Japan, the
Mazda CX-8 has received a few updates. The latest iteration is already on sale
locally and deliveries will commence at the end of next month.
Displayed at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show, the three-row
SUV is available in different specs, with prices ranging between 2,948,000 and
4,890,600 YEN (US$ 27,153-US$ 45,046).
So what’s new? Quite a few things,
including the one-touch walk-in switch access to the third row, available
second-row heated seats, cup holders and USB ports, captain’s chairs with Nappa
leather, black leather trim and USB ports in the third row in some grades.
Contributing to the enhanced experience are the
extra damping coating applied to the roof, optional power sunroof in certain
trim levels and 8-inch center display. The size of the sub-trunk
box has increased by 19 liters to 84 liters, or by 8
liters to 56 liters with the Bose premium sound system.
All engine options can now be chosen with either
front- or all-wheel drive. The latter are offered with the Off-Road Traction
Assist, a system that works with the traction control to improve grip.
Joining the lineup is the new Exclusive Mode special
edition model. Sitting at the top of the range, it adds some comfort and
convenience features to the second row, such as ventilation and power sliding
and reclining, as well as power walk-in switches that fold the seatbacks down
and slide the seats forward to improve access to the third row.
