This beloved Subaru WRX STI EJ20 Final Edition exclusive to the Japanese market is an ode to the legendary EJ20 boxer engine that debuted
on the first-generation Legacy in 1989 and went on to equip a variety of Subaru
models, including competition cars in the WRC and the Nürburgring 24 Hours.
As the name clearly states, the WRX STI EJ20 Final
Edition also marks the end of production of the famed engine in Japan during
this fiscal year. Japanese customers will be able to order the current WRX STI
powered by the EJ20 engine until December 23, 2019.
Based on the WRX STI Type S, it brings styling and
equipment upgrades that should make it the most desirable WRX STI in Japan.
Styling-wise, the EJ20 Final Edition features WRC-inspired gold-painted BBS
19-inch forged aluminum wheels, Cherry Red accents on the front grille and rear
bumper, Ultrasuede / leather seats with silver stitching and accents (Recaros
at the front), steering wheel wrapped in Ultrasuede, and silver seat belts,
among other things.
The EJ20 2.0-liter twin-scroll turbocharged boxer
engine delivers 308 PS and 422 Nm of torque, channeled to
all four wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. Stopping power is supplied
by Brembo 18-inch ventilated disc brakes with 6-piston calipers at the front
and 2-piston ones at the rear.
Subaru will only build 555 units (another reference
to its past WRC machines) of the WRX STI EJ20 Final Edition, each priced from
¥ 4,110,000 (US$ 37,900)
