The MG HS compact
SUV has finally reached UK shores as the brand’s flagship model. The UK version appears identical
to the model sold in China, minus the right-hand-drive configuration. It looks
like a slightly larger MG ZS. Exterior design highlights include the
latest iteration of MG’s stellar field grille framing the largest brand logo
yet, twin tailpipes, and an aluminum lower bumper at both ends.
The interior of the MG HS is said to feature
soft-touch materials throughout, a comfortable driving position and roomy
seats. MG claims front passengers enjoy class-leading shoulder-, hip- and
head-room while rear passengers get plenty of space too thanks to the reclining
seats and comfort features including twin air vents, two USBs and a fold-out
arm rest.
The 2020 MG HS offers a single engine choice, a
1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline unit producing 160 Hp at
5,500 rpm and 250 Nm of torque from 1,500 to 4,400 rpm. Customers
can have it with a standard six-speed manual transmission or an optional
seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. In both cases, power is only sent to the
front wheels.
The 0-100 km/h sprint takes 9.9 seconds
and the top speed is 190 km/h. As for fuel efficiency, the MG HS is
said to achieve a combined WLTP figure of 37.2 mpg UK (7.6 l/100 km) for the
manual and 36.2 mpg UK (7.8 l/100 km) for the DCT.
