Yamaha has unveiled the 2020 Yamaha MT-125.
Positioned as a sporty 125 cc entry-level (A1 level) motorcycle, the Yamaha
MT-125 rivals the likes of KTM Duke 125, Suzuki GSX-S125 and Honda CB125R.
The 2020 Yamaha MT-125 walks down the new path of
new design philosophy of the Yamaha MT-03. The headlamp is an all-LED unit with
twin position lights completing the menacing look. Also, the chiselled body has
a characteristic mass-forward approach with a compact mid-section and short
tail. Besides that, the Yamaha MT-125 continues to offer a dynamic riding
position, something which will be immensely beneficial for beginners.
At the heart of the Yamaha MT-125 is a 124.7 cc
single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, SOHC 4-valve engine. This is the same
powertrain which also does duty in the new Yamaha R125. The presence of
Variable Valve Actuation gives it an edge over the competition. Coupled to a
6-speed gearbox, the engine produces 15 PS of power and 11.5 Nm of torque.
Also, Yamaha has done away with the 130-section rear tyre with a 140-section
unit, giving the Yamaha MT-125 a big bike appeal.
The new Yamaha MT125 also benefits from the new
deltabox frame, swingarm and shorter wheelbase. Colour options include Ice
Fluo, Icon Blue and Midnight Black. Suspension duties are administered by a 41
mm upside-down fork up front and monoshock at the rear. Brakes include a 292 mm
disc at the front and a 220 mm unit at the rear. Seat height and ground
clearance stand at 810 mm and 140 mm respectively. All the new material in the
bike has helped to keep weight under the check. In fact, the 2020 Yamaha MT-125
weighs just 140 kg (wet).
Like the bigger latest Yamaha MT models, the new
Yamaha MT-125 has a slipper clutch and the new reverse backlit instrumentation.
Deliveries will begin in December 2019.
