Recently, the
Chinese self-driving startup company Pony.ai said that the company cooperated
with GAC(Guangzhou Automobile Group) to build an L4 self-driving vehicle based
on GAC Aion LX. Later, the car will also be used in both driverless
demonstration operations.
On August 29 this
year, GAC New Energy Aion LX has officially opened pre-sales, but it has not
yet been listed. The pre-sale price of new car starts at 250,000 yuan after
subsidies. The Aion LX production model itself will feature the ADiGO driver
assistance system, which includes active brakes, highway lane change
assistance, traffic sign recognition, and traffic congestion assistance, at the
moment Aion LX will reach L3 autonomous driving.
This time, Pony.ai
developed its L4 self-driving vehicle based on its third-generation autonomous
driving software and hardware solution, PonyAlpha, based on GAC New Energy Aion
LX. Previously, Pony.ai also launched an L4-class self-driving vehicle based on
GAC New Energy GE3 in December 2018. In the future, Pony.ai said that the
company and GAC New Energy will be based in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau, and
jointly build demonstration operation such as Robotaxi in the open roads in the
urban area.
Pony.ai is a Chinese
startup that targets L4/L5 autopilot. In June 2017, it obtained California road
test license and received road test license in 2018 for self-driving vehicles
issued by the Beijing Municipal Government. At the beginning of 2018, Pony.ai
announced the completion of the $112 million Series A financing, which was
jointly led by Morningside Capital and Legend Capital.
