A handful of photos have surfaced online of
McLaren’s Sports Series family new range topper, the 620R. These images, published by
Piston Heads, reveal that McLaren has developed a road-going version of the
570S GT4 race car to slot above the exhilarating 600LT in its range. There are
no pricing or availability details known about the car just yet.
Many of the aggressive aerodynamic parts from the
570S GT4 are carried through to the 620R. For example, there is the same
towering rear wing, the same front fascia and splitter, and the same canards on
either side of the front bumper.
The exhaust and diffuser have also been lifted from
the race car. One key point of difference between the 570S GT4 and the
road-going 620R is the latter’s use of a large roof scoop to feed air to the
engine, while one image shows a 620R specced out with the same livery as the
Senna GTR. The look of the 620R is also very similar to the 1 of 10 570S MSO X
commissioned by McLaren Newport Beach last year.
Piston Heads asserts that the similarities between
the street car and the race car on which it is based will be more than skin
deep, as other parts tipped to be shared between the two include adjustable
coilover springs and dampers. Carbon ceramic brakes are also expected, as are a
number of tire options. An image of the car’s interior shows it equipped with
six-point racing harnesses and looking noticeably stripped out.
Now that it’s out in the open, we expect more
details about the 620R to emerge sooner rather than later.
