VW is launching the new T-Roc R in markets across
Europe. This makes the new VW T-Roc R the
brand’s first SUV to receive the ‘R’ moniker too. A turbocharged 2.0-liter unit
that produces 296 HP and 400 Nm of torque lives under the
bonnet. Power is sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch
automatic transmission, which is the only option.
With this amount of firepower, it’s no wonder that
the T-Roc R can manage the classic 0-100 km/h in under five seconds –
4.8 to be exact. Top speed is electronically governed to 250 km/h as
is the case for fast VW models.
The chassis gets a lowered sports suspension, bigger
brakes, a progressive steering system and an electronic stability control than
can be fully deactivated. There’s also an optional ‘R’ Performance Titanium
exhaust system made from Akrapovic for those who want the sportiest soundtrack
from the T-Roc R’s quad tailpipes.
The exterior of the new VW T-Roc R
features a more aggressive look, courtesy of the R-styled bumpers, unique air
intakes with black fins and model-specific daytime-running lights. The LED
taillights feature dark red clusters, a set of 18-inch alloy wheels are
standard fit -with 19-inch dark graphite ones an option, alongside a set of
adaptive dampers.
Inside we find a set of body-hugging seats for the
front passengers, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display with App-Connect,
a digital instrument cluster and a leather-wrapped sports steering wheel.
Customers can opt for a wireless charging pod, stop & go adaptive cruise
control with Traffic Jam Assist, Rear Traffic Alert and more.
Prices for the new VW T-Roc R start from 43,995
euros (US$ 48,300) in Germany, making it 2,290 euros
(US$ 2,500) cheaper than the Golf R in its home market.
