Bicycles are not
just leisure activity vehicles, as people have been using them for their daily
commutes for years, beating rush-hour traffic and helping lower air pollution
in the process. The advent of electrification has made them even more
appealing, and Peugeot has just launched its latest product, the eM01 FS
PowerTube.
Presented at Roc
d’Azur, the leading mountain bike show that gathered nearly 150,000 enthusiasts
between October 9 and 13, in Frejus, France, it will launch early next year in
five versions.
The eM01 FS
PowerTube, where ‘e’ stands for ‘electric’, ‘M’ for ‘mountain’, ‘01’ for
‘high-end’, ‘FS’ for ‘full suspension’ and ‘PowerTube’ for ‘battery integrated
in frame’, is powered by Bosch’s new Performance CX electric motor that pushes
out 75 Nm of torque. Peugeot Cycles described the acceleration as
being “explosive”, adding that it offers almost zero friction at speeds over 25
km/h.
Built into the
frame, the 62 Wh battery gives the bicycle a range of up to 140 km,
which is better than some electric vehicles currently on the market. For
example, the new MAN eTGE Combi, as well as the panel van variant, offers only
114 km on a single charge in the WLTP test cycle.
