Volkswagen has announced pricing for the 2020 VW Passat, which will start from US$ 22,995 MSRP in the U.S. The midsize saloon continues to use the automaker’s 2.0-liter turbocharged TSI engine, producing 174 HP and 280 Nm of torque and is paired to a six-speed automatic gearbox.

Standard features include 17-inch alloy wheels, full LED lighting, App-Connect, Front Assist with Pedestrian Monitoring, Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Traffic Alert, while available extras include 19-inch wheels, heated rear seats, leather seating surfaces, an Adaptive Front-lighting System, Fender premium audio system, ACC, Lane Assist and Park Assist.


Inside, the 2020 Passat boasts a new dash design with redesigned air vents, a more modern instrument panel and a new glass-covered infotainment touchscreen. Also available are new colors and materials such as V-Tex leatherette and Nappa leather.

Buyers looking to go one step beyond the entry-level Passat S can opt for the SE, which starts at US$ 25,845 and adds chrome window surrounds, keyless access with push-button start, remote start, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, power driver’s seat, rain-sensing wipers, VW Car-New with WiFi capability, ACC and Lane Assist and a couple of other goodies, with a sunroof being a US$ 995 extra.


Higher up the food chain is the R-Line, which costs upwards of US$ 28,645 and has a sunroof as standard. It also comes with ambient lighting, stainless-steel pedal caps, 19-inch wheels, R-Line front bumper with C-signature air intakes in gloss black, black window surrounds, a spoiler, rear diffuser, chrome exhaust pipes, stainless-steel door sills and steering wheel shift paddles.

The top spec Passat is the SEL, which costs US$ 31,095. Its standard features include 18-inch wheels, the Advanced Front-lighting System (AFS), High Beam Control (Light Assist), stainless-steel door sills, Comfort Sport seats with leather seating surfaces, driver’s seat and exterior mirror memory, power passenger seat, heated rear seats, the Discover Media infotainment system with a 6.3-inch touchscreen display, a Fender audio system, Easy Open trunk and the Parking Steering Assistant with Park Distance Control.

The 2020 Passat will begin arriving at U.S. dealerships by the end of this year.
