The Chevrolet Blazer lineup is growing as the
company has announced plans to introduce a seven-seat variant in China next
week. Set to debut at the 2019 Chevrolet Gala Night, the seven-seat
crossover has been designed to “cater to the needs and preferences of Chinese
families.” The company is keeping details under wraps, but confirmed the model
will be offered in RS and Redline trims.
While Chevrolet is staying tight-lipped, China’s
Ministry of Industry and Information Technology posted pictures of the
crossover last month. It’s largely identical to the standard model, but
features a longer rear end and bigger third quarter windows.
The crossover will reportedly be 137 mm longer, 5 mm wider and 34 mm taller than the standard
Blazer. Since the wheelbase remains unchanged at 2,863 mm, the
extra length has been tacked onto the rear end.
Details will be announced shortly, but reports have
suggested the Chinese-spec model will be front-wheel drive and powered by a
turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 227 hp.
There have been conflicting reports about whether or
not the seven-seat Blazer will be offered in other markets. However, the seven-seater
could be a tough sell in the United States as the five-seat variant starts at US$ 28,800. Customers who need more room can upgrade to the larger Traverse which
costs US$ 1,000 more. This isn’t an issue in China where the largest Chevrolet
crossover is the Equinox.
