Hero MotoCorp has
teased the Euro-V compliant versions of the Hunk 200R (Xtreme 200R
in the Indian market) and the Glamour ahead of their debut at the 2019 EICMA
motorcycle show. The teaser video reveals that the Euro-V compliant variants of
the Hunk 200R and the Glamour will not feature a massive visual overhaul.
The Hunk 200R will continue to feature halogen headlight assembly along with
the twin LED DRLs. Similarly, the Xtreme 200R should retain the halogen
headlight. Another frame in the video gives a glimpse at the instrument console
of the Glamour 125, revealing the same semi-digital display that is also seen
on the existing motorcycle. Don't expect to see any changes to the instrument
console of the Hunk 200R/Xtreme 200R either.
The minimal design
upgrade aims to keep the costs low and offer updated models at competitive
prices. Do note that the revised insurance rates and the mandatory addition of
ABS/CBS tech in the Indian-spec models have already increased the prices of the
products substantially.
The teaser video
also reveals that the updated engines benefit from three-way catalytic
converter, fuel injection system and engine control module. Overall, Hero
MotoCorp claims to use over 500 mechanical and electrical components. The
addition of a fuel injection system should result in improved fuel economy
numbers. The performance numbers are not likely to be very different from the
current models.
The current 199.6
cc air-cooled, 2-valve single cylinder OHC engine on the Xtreme 200R makes 18.4
PS at 8,000 rpm and 17.1 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The motor is paired with a five-speed
gearbox. The updated motor will also be used on the Xtreme 200S, XPulse 200 and
the XPulse 200T. Do note that the XPulse 200 duo is already available with a
fuel injection system.
The updated models
are likely to reach the Indian market in early 2020, well ahead of the April
2020 deadline to comply with the BS-VI emission norms. Expect the BS-VI
compliant motorcycles to be 10-15% more expensive than their outgoing BS-VI
variants.
