BMW has opened the order books for the
M8 Competition Coupe and Convertible in the UK, announcing at the same time
their pricing details. The new BMW M8 Competition Coupe is priced from £ 123,435,
with the Convertible variant commanding a £ 7,000 premium, at £ 130,435. Both
models are more expensive than the four-door M8 Competition Gran Coupe variant,
which retails from £ 120,935.
Power comes from a twin-turbo
4.4-liter V8 engine that pumps out 616 HP and 750 Nm of
torque and is paired to an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission. The
M xDrive all-wheel drive system enables some pretty impressive acceleration
figures, with the Coupe officially capable of a 0-100 km/h in 3.2
seconds and a 0-200 km/h in 10.6 seconds. All models come with their top speed
capped at 250 km/h but customers can raise it to 304 km/h if they opt for the M Driver’s Package.
The trick all-wheel drive system
features an active M differential and can be disengaged, just like in the M5,
after the driver switches off the Dynamic Stability Control. The chassis rides
on M-specific adaptive dampers and features additional bracing, fatter
anti-roll bars, the M Servotronic steering with a variable ratio, optional
carbon brakes and more. A set of 20-inch forged alloy wheels is fitted as
standard.
The interior is choked in kit as you
would expect, including a pair of multi-adjustable M Sport seats, BMW’s latest
Operating System 7.0 with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a
10.25-inch infotainment system, the company’s Intelligent Personal Assistant
and a head-up display with full color graphics, among other.
