BMW has released a teaser image showing the upcoming M4 GT3. Set to hit the track in 2022, the M4 GT3
is a customer racing car that will replace the M6 GT3 which was launched in
2016. The latter model has racked up numerous wins over the years including
victories at the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps and the FIA GT World Cup in
Macau.
BMW
didn’t say much about the track racer, but they confirmed the M4 GT3 has been
in development for several months and will undergo extensive testing next year.
The automaker also revealed the racer is closely related to the road-going
model.
Speaking
of the production car, BMW confirmed the M4 will have an S58 TwinPower Turbo
six-cylinder engine that produces more than 493 hp. The
company went on to say the engine and chassis of the road-going model are the
“perfect basis for the development of the GT3 racing version.”
While
BMW was tight-lipped on specifics, the teaser image shows the race car will
have a massive grille similar to the one used on the Concept 4. It is flanked
by slender headlights and large fog lights which emit a yellow glow. Other notable styling features include a
ventilated hood and vents above the front fenders. We can also see aerodynamic
mirrors, a roll cage and a large rear wing.
