Despite
sounding like an odd choice, it makes perfect sense once you consider the Tahoe
and Suburban have been featured in more than 1,750 films and 700 television
shows since 1952. That’s probably more than most people would have thought, but
the Tahoe and Suburban are often cast as the vehicle of choice for everyone
from government officials to bad guys.
As
a result, the Suburban is the first vehicle to get a star on the Hollywood Walk
of Fame. It honors the SUV’s 67-year career in film and television. In a statement, Chevrolet Suburban and
Tahoe design manager Tim Kozub said “The popularity of Suburban and Tahoe in
film was first inspired by the real-life roles they played in the military, in
law enforcement and family trips around the world. Today, their role in
Hollywood inspired the design of the all-new models, as we integrated the sense
of capability, action, and importance associated with Suburban and Tahoe on
screen.”
Speaking
of the all-new Tahoe and Suburban, Chevrolet confirmed they will be unveiled
later this month. The company didn’t say much about the redesigned SUVs, but
they will be a departure from their predecessors as they will adopt an
independent rear suspension which should improve ride quality.
Previous
spy photos have also shown the models will have a prominent grille, large
headlights and a familiar shape. We can also expect a higher quality interior
with new switchgear and a modern infotainment system.
Engine
options will likely be shared with the Silverado and this means we can expect a
5.3-liter V8 with 355 hp and 519 Nm of torque.
There should also be a higher-end variant with a 6.2-liter V8 that develops 420
hp and 623 Nm of torque.
