The
Chery Tiggo 3x crossover/SUV, also known as the Tiggo 2 in some countries, has
received a mid-life refresh in China. The novelty is purely technical; the
looks stay the same.
The
car’s invariable 1.5-liter non-turbo engine gains 10 extra horsepower and some
torque in its 2020 revision, now being rated at 116 hp and 143 Nm. Furthermore, it becomes compliant with the China VI environmental norms
(not unlike Euro 6). It still ships with the five-speed manual transmission and
gains a new CVT, but drops the old four-speed automatic.
The
power steering is now electric instead of hydraulic, and the interior trim now
uses plenty of imitation leather. Climate control and tire pressure monitoring
are now standard features, rather than options. The cheaper trim comes with
195/65 R15 tires, while the more expensive ones gain access to 205/55 R16 and
205/50 R17 rubber.
On
a related note, Chery contracted Austria-based powertrain maker AVL to design
the engine and transmissions for the Tiggo 3x. The same components can also be
found in the Chery Very hatchback which the SUV is loosely based upon, and the
Bonus liftback.
