Jeep
launched the Wrangler-inspired Gladiator pickup truck to much fanfare last year
and it’s proved rather popular. Could the car manufacturer be convinced to
build a second pickup, albeit this time a little more road and performance-focused? In a bid to see how such a Jeep pickup
could look, designer L O O N G T has created the Jeep Cottoni pickup. It looks
totally different than the Gladiator and unlike any other Jeep on the market.
The
first thing worth discussing about the vehicle is the intriguing shape.
Traditionally, pickup trucks have quite upright cabins and boxy shapes. The
Cottoni doesn’t. Instead, it features an angular cabin that has been pushed
very far forward, leading us to believe that the concept would support an
electric powertrain, thus allowing for the windshield and interior to stretch
right up to the front wheels.
In
a similar vein, the roofline is low and sharp and the doors are angled rather
than sitting horizontally like on most cars. At the rear, the concept doesn’t
feature an exposed bed and instead a tonneau cover to protect the storage space
from the elements and adding to the sleek shape of the vehicle.
The
rear of the designer’s creation is topped off by narrow LED taillights and a
sparse bumper with what appears to be faux exhausts. The design of the Jeep Gladiator is so
similar to the Wrangler that it could simply be referred to as a Jeep Wrangler
pickup. The Cottoni would, arguably, be more deserving of its own nameplate and
if it ever becomes a reality, could prove to be quite successful.
