Like
many electric vehicle startups, Neuron EV wants to be in the news for as long
as possible. Timing
the reveal of their T-One electric pickup/van close to Tesla Cybertruck’s world
debut was probably no coincidence. Now, the California-based, Chinese-backed
company wants people to talk about its Torq electric semi-truck that should
become a rival for the Tesla Semi, assuming it manages to secure funding.
So
far, they’ve built one prototype that looks sleek, particularly the interior
with a central driving position and a roomy sleeping/relaxing cabin behind the
driver’s seat. The rear sleeping area features cinematic entertainment with a
surround sound system, internet connectivity, abundant storage space and a
plush bed.
As
with the T-One pickup, the Neuron EV Torq is built on a scalable chassis with
interchangeable body components that are easy to attach and detach. This
enables the operator to adjust functionality and expand cargo capacity when
needed.
Thanks
to wireless cameras that feed data into the central screen via application, the
driver has a 360-degree vision of the truck’s surroundings and position at all
times. This is said to increase safety and so does the central driving position
which Neuron EV claims “allows for balanced visibility, optimized handling and
an engaging driving experience.”
The
company also says the cabin “is built with compatibility for future autonomous
operation,” though it doesn’t elaborate on that. The minimalist dashboard is
made possible by the fact that the truck’s vehicle interface application
provides full operation control via the onboard displays.
Furthermore,
the system is compatible with any personal device, gadgets, internet solutions,
and transport management networks. Neuron EV did not reveal any performance
specs but says the Torq electric semi-truck will be energy efficient and able
to manage long drives on a single battery charge.
