Honda is closing in on the European debut of its e electric car and has recently organized the media drive event in Valencia, Spain. That was a good opportunity for the 2020 Honda e to star in a fresh photo shoot and new presentation videos. The Japanese automaker has also dropped full details on its first-ever EV for Europe, so let’s go through the highlights.

Based on a rear-wheel-drive platform, the Honda e promises fun driving dynamics thanks to MacPherson Strut independent suspension for each wheel, 50:50 weight distribution and low center of gravity. There are two electric motors on offer. The one in the entry-level Honda e delivers 136 PS and 315 Nm of torque, enough for a 0 to 100 km/h sprint of 9 seconds. The Honda e Advance grade packs a more powerful motor rated at 154 PS and 315 Nm of torque. With this motor, the Honda e accelerates to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds. As for the top speed, it’s limited to 145 km/h for both variants.

Both motors feature the same 35.5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack which enables a WLTP-rated driving range of up to 222 km in the base Honda e and Honda e Advance equipped with 16-inch alloys. The optional 17-inch alloys for the Honda e Advance take a toll on driving range, which gets reduced to 210 km. The battery delivers fast-charging capability of 80% in 30 minutes using a 100 kW CCS2 charge point. A full charge takes 4.1 hours using a 4 kW Public AC Type 2 charger or 18.8 hours using a 2.3 kW Home AC Type 2 charger.

Other interesting specs released by Honda include the curb weight of 1,514 kg for the base model. That makes it much heavier than an ICE-powered B-segment car but comparable to similarly-sized EVs such as the Renault Zoe. Speaking of size, the Honda e is 3,895-mm long, 1,750-mm wide and 1,512-mm high, with the wheelbase measuring 2,530 mm.

Practicality-wise, the Honda e is a strict four-seater with a rather modest trunk capacity of 171 liters. With the rear seats folded down, the cargo volume rises to 571 liters when loaded to the windows and 861 liters loaded to the roof. All figures are measured according to the VDA method.

Tech highlights include the full-width digital dashboard, Side Camera Mirror System (SCMS) replacing conventional side view mirrors, Collision Mitigation Throttle Control, Low Speed Brake Function, Lead Car Departure Notification System and Honda Parking Pilot, among other features.
