The prancing horse is going green as spy
photographers have snapped a new hybrid from Ferrari. The mule is based on the
488 and isn’t shy about hiding its electrification as there are high-voltage
badges on all four sides of the vehicle. If that wasn’t enough, there’s two
more badges where the Scuderia shields normally reside.
Unfortunately, there isn’t much else to
see other than a modified rear end. While it looks relatively normal at first
glance, the dual exhaust system has been relocated and is now mounted higher
up. Little is known about the car at this point, but Ferrari has previously
said approximately 60% of their vehicles will have a hybrid powertrain by 2022.
Furthermore, the company’s Sport range is slated to go “full hybrid range by
2021.”
The car’s engine also remains a mystery,
but the company is working on a new V6 and has previously confirmed plans for a
“Turbo Hybrid” family of engines. The latter are slated to produce 394+ hp per liter and have zero turbo lag. Ferrari has also said their
hybrids will be “more fun to drive,” while offering lower CO2 emissions.
A lot of questions remain, but it’s
believed the production model won’t arrive until 2021. Ferrari’s chief
marketing and commercial officer, Enrico Galliera, has previously described
2020 as a “year of consolidation” and one which will see the automaker
introduce less models than the year before. 2019 was jam packed for Ferrari as
they unveiled the SF90 Stradale, F8 Tributo, F8 Spider, 812 GTS and the Roma.
