While Europe received an all-new Renault
Captur crossover last year, Russia continues with the old model badged Kaptur.
Mind you, it’s getting some updates too for 2020 but not in the same vein as
the second-generation Captur. Renault says it has moved
the Kaptur on the Alliance’s new modular SUV platform. No, that’s not the
modern CMF-B architecture that underpins Europe’s Captur but rather an updated
version of the B0 platform called B0+. This means the Renault Kaptur shares the
platform as the Duster and Arkana, another product developed specifically for
Russia.
Still, Renault says the updated
architecture brings significant benefits, such as the introduction of the new
TCe 150 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine rated at 150 PS. The B0+ architecture also enables the facelifted Renault Kaptur to
gain access to the latest-generation X-Tronic CVT, offered as the only
transmission for the TCe 150 range-topper.
The new engine likely replaces the
previously-available naturally aspirated 2.0-liter unit, while the 1.6-liter
base engine is expected to carry over. The 2020 Renault Kaptur continues to
have one major advantage over the European-spec Captur and that’s the
availability of all-wheel drive. Renault says the facelifted Kaptur also gains
new driving settings for the chassis and steering.
The most easily noticeable changes for customers
take place inside, however. The automaker describes the cabin as “completely
new” but that’s obviously an exaggeration. Still, the only interior photo
reveals a redesigned center console with a bigger touchscreen for the new
infotainment system, a refreshed center tunnel area, new door cards and blue
accents.
Not much changes on the outside, however,
with the only noticeable modifications including the chrome inserts in the
grille and the new alloys. Renault will reveal more details about the facelifted
Kaptur close to the model’s launch in the first half of 2020.
