Volkswagen announced the coupe-shaped
Nivus crossover in August 2019 and posted a teaser video at the end of the
year, but never gave us a look at the interior – until now.
The Nivus stems from the Brazil
subdivision of WV Group and utilizes the same MQB A0 chassis as the Polo
hatchback, the Virtus saloon and the T-Cross SUV. As such, its inner space
looks little different from that of the abovementioned models. The large
central display and the digital dashboard are both present, although the
infotainment system here is different. Also a proprietary design of VW Brazil,
it is called ‘VW Play’ and has zero hardware controls.
On the outside, the soft-roader sports a
slanted roof, vertical anti-fog lamps, and narrow horizontal brake lights
overlapping the tailgate. It is also the first VW vehicle in Brazil to boast
the updated VW badge.
The wheelbase length is unknown, but
should be equal to the 2.56 meters of the VW Polo. The Virtus and
T-Cross both have 2.65 m between the axles. As for the engine, the
SUV will almost certainly inherit the 1.0-liter three cylinder turbo unit of
the Polo, rated at 116 hp when using gasoline and 128 hp when
burning ethanol. A six-speed transmission will deliver the power to the front
wheels, and customers will be able to choose between manual and automatic.
The production of the Volkswagen Nivus
will begin in Brazil in May this year. Later on, the coupe/SUV will expand to
other South American markets and ultimately Europe.
