Unfortunately for BMW, we’ve known for
some time what direction they’re taking with regards to styling when it comes
to their upcoming facelifted 5-Series model. It is now evident that the 2020
6-Series GT is getting similar updates, as this prototype was recently spotted
by our spy photographers wearing very little camouflage tape. So what’s new? It
all starts with the sharper front end.
Like the G30 5-Series LCI, the updated
6-Series GT is also getting new headlights, slightly thinner and with a more
modern-looking Daytime Running Light signature. The grille is bigger than
before, but not by much. So if you already liked the way the 6 GT looked, rest
assured that BMW didn’t do anything to mess up its styling. Of course, that’s a
pretty big “if” since most people seem to agree that this isn’t a handsome
vehicle.
Then there’s the rear end, where we can
still see the old taillights, much like on previous prototypes. We’re actually
curious what the new graphics might look like for the rear lights, since they
were already pretty sharp to begin with. Could it be another “upside down
hockey stick” like on the updated G30 5er?
Inside, the updated 6 GT will mirror the
5-Series once again, and we expect to see a larger infotainment display, some
new trim and perhaps updated digital dials for the gauge cluster. As for the
engine range, there should be a few upgrades to speak of, such as mild-hybrid
tech, adding a second battery and a 48V starter-generator. Both the facelifted
6-Series GT and 5-Series will be unveiled next week, May 27 at an event in
Korea. The former will not be available in the United States.
