It’s no secret that BMW is planning to
introduce a more hardcore CS version of the M5 for some time now, with our
spies caught a slightly disguised test car taking a rest on a parking spot
outside the company’s test center in Nurburgring. Putting the CS badge on a BMW
M5 means that we should expect the model to be slightly lighter through the use
of stuff like different bucket seats, a new exhaust system, new wheels but not
much else; this is after all still a big super sedan, not an alternative to a
Porsche 911 GT3.
The test car featured less camouflage than
previous sightings but we have already caught a glimpse of it from the rear
being completely naked. Compared to your ‘normal’ M5 and M5 Competition models,
the CS will employ a pointier rear trunk spoiler, different bumpers front and
rear with new air intakes, a deeper front lip, and a tasty rear diffuser in
addition to the aforementioned new wheels.
The twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine is
expected to be upgraded for slightly more power over the 617 HP currently on
offer from the M5 Competition. Older reports suggested that the new BMW M5 CS
could debut a significantly revised V8 engine that could offer some mild
electrification.
The new addition in the M5 family will be
part of the facelifted 5-Series lineup, which has already been leaked online to
reveal styling changes such as the new headlights and taillights and the
slightly updated kidney grille. The 2021 BMW M5 CS is expected to debut in the
second half of the year, following the official reveal of the facelifted
5-Series range.
