Twenty years have passed since Toyota
launched the Prius in the United States, and they are now celebrating that
achievement with a new special model dubbed the Prius 2020 Edition. As part of
the 2021MY, which also includes a few other updates, the Prius 2020 Edition is
limited to 2,020 units and builds on the XLE front-wheel drive grade. Pricing
has yet to be announced, but the regular XLE, which slots between the LE and
Limited, has an MSRP of US$ 28,375.
With a Supersonic Red or Wind Chill Pearl
exterior paint finish, the Prius 2020 Edition has black exterior trim that sets
it apart from the rest of the lineup and rides on 17-inch alloy wheels. The
unique floor mats, black gearshift lever and A-pillar trim, smoked HVAC vents and
‘2020’ key fob round up the special looks of the car.
In addition to the aforementioned gear,
all Prius XLEs feature standard heated front seats with 8-way power driver’s
seat, SofTex upholstery, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, keyless entry,
push-button start, wireless charging pad, 7-inch touchscreen display, voice
recognition, smartphone integration, Bluetooth and a few other gizmos.
New for the 2021 model year is the
introduction of the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 suite of driving assistance
features. This includes the pre-collision system with low-light pedestrian
detection, full-speed range dynamic radar cruise control, cyclist detection,
lane departure alert, road-sign assist and automatic high beams. Another
novelty for the 2021MY is the added Android Auto compatibility – Apple CarPlay
is already standard on the current models.
Toyota has announced
that it will unveil “two all-new hybrids” Monday, on May 18, at 11:00 a.m.
EDT, during an online event that will be hosted by the brand’s executive VP of
Sales, Bob Carter, and the Group’s VP and General Manager, Jack Hollis.
