The SAIC-GM-Wuling-owned Baojun will
launch six all-new models this year, among them the RC-5 range which will
consist of a liftback variant and a wagon, dubbed RC-5W. This is a
compact-sized vehicle, so think Golf Variant if you’re trying to gauge its
dimensions. Like its liftback sibling, the wagon also features the brand’s new
“Interstellar Geometry” design language, which helps it look reasonably modern.
At the front, there’s a split headlight
design, with thin horizontal Daytime Running Lights at the corners, while the
main units are placed lower down. The grille meanwhile resembles that of the
RM-5 minivan. Unlike the RC-5 liftback, the RC-5W boasts a black D-pillar
aesthetic for a floating roof type of look. As for the rear end design, the
family wagon is equipped with a pair of small taillights, brought together by a
dark horizontal insert which also lights up. In fact, “horizontal lines” seems
to be the main theme at the rear.
According to Autohome, the Baojun RC-5W is
4,685 mm long, 1,806 mm wide, 1,485 mm tall and has a 2,700 mm long wheelbase. These are compact
dimensions resembling those of a VW Golf Variant (though a bit bigger) or Skoda
Octavia Estate.
Equipment levels will be generous, as the
car can be configured with a sunroof, driving assistance tech, a panoramic
camera system and more. As for performance, grunt will come via a 1.5-liter
turbocharged gasoline engine, putting down 145 HP while returning 6.8
L/100 km (34.6 US mpg). The Chinese carmaker should unveil the RC-5W wagon
sometime later this year.
