Citroen has officially confirmed the
unveiling of the 2021 e-C4 on June 30. The compact crossover will act as the
replacement of the C4 Cactus and is expected to hit showrooms this fall. The
announcement, which was made on social media, was accompanied by a teaser video
that previews the 3D badging of the car. The e-C4 moniker will be used by the
electric model, and it is understood that the ICE-powered variants will be
known as the C4.
Underpinned by an extended version of the
CMP platform, the all-new C4 will boast a longer wheelbase compared to its
predecessor and the smaller Peugeot 2008, 208, DS3 Crossback and Opel/Vauxhall
Corsa. This will translate into superior legroom for backseat occupants and a
bigger boot space. The architecture will allow it to be offered with a variety
of petrol and diesel engines, in addition to the zero-emission powertrain.
It’s expected to be quite a looker, with
previous spy shots revealing the arched roofline behind the B pillars, which
ends right above the high tailgate design. Unfortunately, the prototypes that
we’ve seen testing in different environments these past few months were
camouflaged to the teeth, so it’s almost impossible to spot most design
details.
The dashboard is thought to be similar to the
latest 2008, with the infotainment screen mounted on top, next to the digital
dials. However, unlike Peugeot’s subcompact crossover, drivers of Citroen’s
compact model will not have to look over the steering wheel at the cluster, but
right through it. Elsewhere, expect a wide range of technology features and
exclusive upholstery and trim options, which should help it retain the youthful
character of its predecessor.
