The 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro has just been announced for Australia, where it
will be sold through local AMG Performance Centers from AU$ 453,200
(US$ 316,034), with deliveries set to commence in September.
Mercedes-AMG is building just 750 examples
of the AMG GT R Pro worldwide and only 15 of them are coming Down Under. It
sits at the very top of the GT family, at least until the AMG GT R Black Series
lands, and is been touted “as the ultimate track day racer of the Mercedes-AMG
range, whilst still being able to be driven every day on the road.”
Powering the supercar is a 4.0-liter
twin-turbocharged V8 rated at 577 hp and 700 Nm of torque. Coupled to the potent engine is a dual-clutch AMG SpeedShift
7G seven-speed transmission driving the rear wheels, helping rocket the car to
100 km/h in a mere 3.6 seconds.
Moreover, the AMG GT R Pro is six seconds
faster around the Nurburgring than the ‘regular’ AMG GT R and this largely
comes down to the aerodynamic improvements it benefits from, which result in
added downforce. The most notable are an extended front splitter, canards on
the bumper and carbon fiber louvers on the front arches, while the rear
features a distinctive diffuser and a large fixed wing.
To put the AU$ 453,200 asking price of the
GT R Pro into perspective, the entry-level GT S Coupe in Australia starts at
AU$ 311,142 (US$ 216,903) while the GT C Coupe and GT Roadster are priced from
AU$ 329,843 (US$ 229,940) and AU$ 355,242 (US$ 247,646) respectively. Prices for
the ‘regular’ Mercedes-AMG GT R Coupe kick off at AU$ 361,042 (US$ 251,689).
