It’s no secret that Hyundai wants to bring
its luxury brand Genesis to Europe and that could happen as early as before the
end of this year. To cater to European tastes, Genesis will reportedly offer an
estate variant of the G70 luxury sports sedan and we now have proof the company
is actually developing such a model. These images brought to our attention by
AutoSpy reveal a G70 wagon prototype undergoing testing in South Korea.
While heavily camouflaged, it is obvious
we’re looking at the G70 wagon, which is expected to sport the Shooting Brake
moniker. As you can see, the more utilitarian body style of the Genesis G70
will launch with the facelift of the current model. We say that because it
features the split horizontal headlights and taillights similar to the larger
G80 sedan and GV80 SUV. We’ve already seen the same lighting units on
facelifted Genesis G70 prototypes so these photos make it clear that the G70
Shooting Brake will get them as well. To justify the Shooting Brake
description, the G70 wagon appears to favor a sporty styling over practicality.
The sloping roofline and and C-pillar
treatment are testament to that, and we’re really curious what’s behind that
black cloth that covers the area between the C-pillars and the tailgate. That’s
because of the rather curious location for the shark fin antenna. Genesis
placed it somewhat far from the rear end of the car, which could suggest the
second G70 body style will be a fastback rather than an estate.
