Mercedes-Benz has already started working
on a brand new GLC compact luxury SUV and these are the very first photos of
it. Understandably, the prototype seen in these spy shots wears a full wrap but
seems to feature the final production body. The SUV appears
to have a lower roofline than the current model as well as a longer overall
length and a stretched wheelbase.
Obviously, we can’t back these claims so
take them with a grain of salt. As far as the proportions go, the
second-generation Mercedes-Benz GLC (codenamed X254) features a significantly
longer and more horizontal bonnet.
Other details worth mentioning include the
headlights which look to be in production specification, the aero-style wheels,
and the provisional taillights. As with the next-generation C-Class with which
it shares underpinnings, the upcoming GLC will offer only electrified
powertrains, including mild-hybrid assistance for the four- and six-cylinder
petrol and diesel engines, and plug-in hybrids.
The new model will be much more
sophisticated technologically than the current GLC, offering new driver
assistance systems and the latest MBUX infotainment systems. Expect a similar
dashboard with the 2021 C-Class featuring a fully-digital center console paired
with a big screen acting as an instrument cluster.
The next-generation Mercedes-Benz GLC will
be built at the Sindelfingen plant in Germany, in addition to the existing
sites in Bremen and Finland, where it is built under contract by Valmet
Automotive. Expect the all-new Mercedes-Benz GLC to launch in 2022.
