Aston Martin’s first-ever motorcycle has
begun dynamic testing ahead of the start of deliveries at the end of 2020. Going
by the full name of ‘AMB 001 by Aston Martin and Brough Superior’, the
limited-edition high-performance bike recently took to the track at Pau-Arnos
in France to start its testing program.
Sporting the traditional Aston Martin Camo
livery, the AMB 001 test mule completed its first track test, which is
essential for a bike designed and engineered for the race track. Prototype
testing is one of the most vital parts of the development process, as a test
motorcycle allows the team to validate the chassis geometry, the ergonomics and
dynamic behavior. Following the test, Brough Superior’s test rider offered
feedback on all areas of performance, from the overall dynamic feel of the bike
to details regarding cornering, braking, and acceleration.
While track testing focuses on the
chassis, engine bench testing takes place in parallel. The AMB 001 packs a
turbocharged V-twin engine with an output of 180 hp, which is unique for a
serial production bike. The turbo package includes an intercooler, with the
striking oversized intake manifold giving the V-twin a supercar engine
appearance.
Once the testing process is complete, the
AMB 001 will enter production this autumn at the Brough Superior factory in
Toulouse, France. Strictly limited to 100 examples, the exclusive bike is
priced at € 108,000 (US$ 122,000), including 20% VAT.
