Recent spy shots of 2021 BMW M3 Sedan
prototypes featuring less camouflage than ever have provided Photoshop experts
with plenty of ammo to create accurate CGIs previewing the production
performance model. Ever since the massive kidney grilles were first spotted
without any camouflage in October 2019, it’s all people have been talking
about. This controversial design feature has probably kept the 2021 M3 Sedan
and 2021 M4 Coupe in the news way longer than if BMW had decided to put regular-size
kidneys on its performance models.
In any case, we can now show you two new
illustrations we believe to anticipate very closely the final design of the BMW
M3 G80. Created by Kolesa’s resident artist, they are based on the latest sets
of spy shots and should help you decide if you want to buy the new M3 or not –
provided you have the dough. The front end is obviously dominated by the
oversized kidney grilles which will make or break this car when it comes to
sales. They are certainly very divisive but we’re pretty sure our planet will
keep spinning even after the launch of the new M3 and M4. Mind you, with the
front license plate in place, they appear slightly less controversial.
The front bumper looks really aggressive,
as does the muscular hood which is sculpted after the kidney grilles. The
artist has envisioned the 2021 M3 Sedan with the sleek laser lights, which will
probably come standard. Moving on to the sides, we see large BMW M wheels shod
with low-profile performance tires, sharp side skirts and the traditional BMW M
‘gills’ in the front fenders. Out back, the BMW M3 will feature a sizable
diffuser with integrated quad exhausts, a sculpted bumper and a boot lid
spoiler.
Power will come from a twin-turbocharged
3.0-liter straight-six engine available in two states of tune. In base
specification, the unit delivers 480 PS and comes with a
standard six-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive. Customers will
also be given the choice of a Competition model with 510 PS and 650 Nm, offered as standard with an 8-speed M Steptronic
transmission with Drivelogic and rear-wheel drive. Later on, the M3 Competition
will also be available with the latest version of the M xDrive all-wheel-drive
system. BMW will officially reveal the new M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe in
mid-September.
