Another blackout edition continues as Hyundai has introduced the 2021
Kona Night Edition, hot on the heels of yesterday’s Ram Heavy Duty Limited
Black Edition. Set to go on sale in the United States this September, the 2021
Kona Night Edition features LED lighting units and 18-inch RAYS wheels with a
semi-gloss black finish.
The model also has a host of gloss black
exterior accents. The company didn’t go into specifics, but these appear to
include the mirror caps and grille surround. Regardless, the Kona will be
offered in Ultra Black as well as Galactic Gray and Chalk White.
Hyundai was coy on interior changes, but
said the model has alloy pedals and gloss black accents. These apparently
include the door handles but, oddly enough, the air vent rings have a silver
finish. Power is provided by a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that
develops 175 hp and 264 Nm of torque. It is
connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission which can presumably be
backed up by an optional all-wheel drive system.
While Hyundai said virtually nothing about
the special edition, its turbocharged 1.6-liter engine suggests the model is
based on either the Limited or Ultimate trim. If that’s the case, we can expect
heated leather front seats, a sunroof, and a 7- or 8-inch inch infotainment
system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Other niceties should include an automatic
climate control system, an eight-speaker Infinity premium audio system and a
wireless smartphone charger. We can also expect a passive entry system with a
push-button ignition, an electrochromatic rearview mirror with HomeLink, and a
4.2-inch color display in the instrument cluster.
There should also be an assortment of
driver assistance systems such as blind-spot collision warning, lane change
assist and lane keeping assist. We can also expect forward collision-avoidance
assist and rear cross-traffic collision warning.
