The upcoming 2021 BMW M5 CS will offer
performance out of the reach of most shoppers but it could also prove to be the
latest must-have M model. The idea of a track-focused family sedan like the M5
CS makes no real logical sense as only a tiny proportion of owners will ever
take the car anywhere near a race circuit. However, for many of the people who
buy cars like these, appearances are everything and if you can drive a more
powerful, exclusive, and faster variant of an already fast car to show off to
your friends, it’s worth the added expense.
As this recent spy video of the M5 CS
testing at the Nurburgring shows, it will be a series performer. Sure, it will
be heavy but at the hands of an experienced driver, it looks to be capable of
some very impressive cornering speeds with minimal understeer or oversteer
thanks to an excellent all-wheel-drive system.
It is claimed that BMW engineers will work
their magic on the car’s 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine so it delivers
around 640 hp and 800 Nm of torque, giving it a respectable 25 hp
and 50 Nm edge over the M5 Competition. A host of other upgrades
will come standard. These will include a carbon-fiber roof, a different
suspension setup, a revised front fascia, and a lip spoiler on the trunk. There
will also be bespoke high-performance ceramic brakes with drilled discs and
unique wheels.
