The Geely Preface has now reached the
production stage and is showcased by the Chinese automaker in the first
official photos. For now, we only get to see the exterior but it won’t be long
until Geely will uncover the cabin too since the model will launch in the
fourth quarter of 2020. The Preface is the brand’s second model to be
underpinned by the Geely-Volvo jointly developed CMA platform, following the
Xing Yue crossover coupe (previously known as the FY11).
Compared to the concept car, the Geely
Preface production model is obviously toned down. It no longer features suicide
doors and rearview cameras, while the lights and bumpers have been slightly
modified. Mind you, the sporty and elegant proportions stay largely the same
and somewhat remind of Volvo’s current sedans. The production car also retains
Geely’s ‘cosmos grille’, which features a stronger and wider shape than its
first version introduced in 2015.
Geely will announce the powertrain lineup
for the Preface sedan, as well as other details, in due course. A 2.0-liter
turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine looks like a safe bet, including
electrified variants. As with the Xing Yue launched in mid-2019 and soon
heading for global markets, the Preface will first launch in China and later in
other countries around the world. The Geely Preface will be made at the
Hangzhou Bay plant in China.
