As part of the buildup for the 2021
S-Class’ September 2 unveiling, Mercedes-Benz today provides a second detailed
look at the flagship sedan’s interior. While last month the automaker released
the first photos and details of the second-generation MBUX infotainment system
that debuts on the new S-Class, now it focuses on the model’s luxury and
well-being features.
Mercedes describes the interior of the
2021 S-Class as a “third place”, which is a refuge between home and workplace.
The cabin is said to offer a “feel-good ambience with lounge character marked
by elegance, high quality and lightness.”
From a styling standpoint, Mercedes says
the cabin is influenced by interior architecture and yacht design elements.
Besides the five displays, highlights include the large trim elements in the
dashboard and in the rear (with the optional First Class rear suite). For
example, customers can choose a yacht-inspired open-pore wood veneer permeated
by form-following inlays made of real aluminum.
New design elements also include the four
low-profile center vents with horizontally mounted adjusters, two slim vertical
side vents, new seat generation with flowing, three-dimensional design, and new
steering wheel generation with goblet-shaped accommodation. Another interior
highlight of the 2021 S-Class is the new active ambient lighting system
integrated into the driving assistance and Energizing Comfort systems. It is
able to underpin alerts visually and offers feedback when operating the climate
control system or the ‘Hey Mercedes’ voice assistant.
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class never lacked
interior space and the new one makes no exception. According to the automaker,
nearly all comfort-related dimensions of both the short- and long-wheelbase
S-Class have been improved for all passengers. Therefore, sense of space is
“accordingly generous.” There are up to five rear seat variants available: two
and three seats, reclining seat function, folding center armrest or business
center console.
High ride quality and low noise levels
also characterize the 2021 S-Class, along with an extensive range of Energizing
Comfort programs. For example, at the touch of a button or by voice command,
creates an invigorating atmosphere in case of fatigue or relaxing in case of an
elevated stress level. There’s even an Energizing Coach function which suggests
an appropriate fitness or wellness program based on vehicle and trip data. The
luxury saloon is also equipped with an air filtering system named Energizing
Air Control, effective against fine dust, pollen and odors. As before, an
Air-Balance Package with ionizer offers two special S-Class fragrances.
