The production-ready version of the BMW
iNext, thought to be dubbed the iX, is edging ever closer to its debut and
according to a new report, will be offered in a handful of different forms. We
know that the BMW iX will use BMW’s fifth-generation eDrive system that’s also
used by the iX3 and should support an 80 kWh battery. Despite the relatively
small battery size, BMW is thought to be targeting a range of around 640 km.
According to a report from BMW Blog, three
variants of the iX will be offered to customers. The entry-level model will
apparently deliver 308 HP, likely from a single electric motor similar to the
iX3. Sitting above this version in the range will be a mid-tier iX with
approximately 522 HP. Topping out the range will be a 610 HP model. It’s
reasonable to assume the mid-tier and flagship models will have the same dual
electric motor setups but run different software tunes, hence the power
differences.
Beyond the powertrain options, recent spy
shots of iX prototypes have shown that despite this being an innovative new
vehicle from the German brand, it will still be easily identifiable as a BMW.
Located up front will be a solid kidney grille that houses things like radar,
various camera technology, and other sensors that provide the all-electric SUV
with its Level 3 autonomous driving capabilities.
As for the cabin, it will include a
digital instrument cluster and a large, curved infotainment screen. Like other
BMW models, a plethora of interior options will be offered.
