Ford has introduced a tilt roof option for the long-wheelbase Transit Custom Nugget Plus camper for the first time. The new variant delivers a lower roof height for convenience on the move while retaining interior space. Another advantage of the tilting roof is it enables the use of roof racks as well as easier access to height-restricted parking and camping.

At the same time, it improves fuel efficiency during motorway driving and you could even save on ferry and toll costs compared to larger motorhomes. Based on the long-wheelbase Transit Custom van, the Transit Nugget Plus tilt roof has been developed in partnership with camper specialists Westfalia. It offers a fully-fitted camping interior with high-quality conversion work, advanced driver assistance and connectivity features, and a 2.0-liter EcoBlue diesel engine with 130 PS or 185 PS.

The Transit Custom Nugget Plus also features a built-in toilet, washbasin and additional interior space. Light enough for simple manual operation, the tilt roof expands to provide a sleeping area containing a double bed. A self-folding system automatically tensions the weather-resistant sides when raised and gathers slack when lowering for smooth operation and secure storage on the move.

Once raised and fixed in place, the tilt roof creates up to 2.4 meters of interior headroom while a large rear window and two side windows allow light into the cabin. They are also fitted with shades for privacy, while keeping out the early morning sun. The upper level sleeping area also features side vents and LED reading lights as standard, while the double bed can also fold away for more interior space during the day.

In addition to the sleeping area on the roof, the Nugget Plus has the same L-shaped interior layout as the high roof variant. Facilities includes a kitchenette, living and dining area which can convert to three travel seats when on the move, built-in toilet, and foldaway washbasin. Two on-board 42-liter tanks supply fresh and waste water. The Ford Transit Custom Nugget Plus also comes with high-speed internet as standard via the FordPass Connect modem.

Including the tilt roof variant, the Nugget range now holds four models; in addition to the Nugget Plus with fixed high roof, there’s also the short-wheelbase model. All four Nugget models are available to order directly through Ford dealerships from November this year, with deliveries in the first quarter of 2021.
