A weird Rolls-Royce prototype has been
spied testing while covered in camouflage, prompting speculation that it could
be a new one-off model. It is unclear where exactly this video was filmed but
the Rolls-Royce takes the shape of a Shooting Brake. From the rear, it doesn’t
even look like a Rolls-Royce, so odd is the shape of the roofline, the rear
fascia, and the taillights. It’s only when the person filming pans around to
the front of the car that we can see it is indeed a Rolls. Look closely and you
may also notice the prototype has a sticker on the side that reads ‘The
Legendary 7. London.’
Is Rolls-Royce testing an intriguing new
Shooting Brake model? It is possible but we’re more inclined to believe the
shape of the roofline is all part of a ruse to hide what’s really going on
under the skin. One explanation for what we are seeing is that this could be an
early prototype of a forthcoming Rolls-Royce recently revealed in a series of
patent images. These photos revealed an intriguing model with a distinctive
roofline and decklid that appeared to be clad in wood. The car depicted was
also rocking a set of flying buttresses and it would make sense for Rolls-Royce
to employ some dramatic body cladding to hide this new design.
A search of the license plate on the UK’s
DVLA website reveals this plate was first used for a 2016 Rolls-Royce and that
the car is powered by a twin-turbocharged 6.6-liter V12 engine.
