Volkswagen has been offering a camper
version of the Caddy, dubbed the Caddy Beach, since 2005, and for the latest
iteration, the model will be massively overhauled, getting a new name in the
process too: the Mini-Camper.
Set to premiere at the beginning of
September, it will continue to slot beneath the California and Grand
California, and will still provide users with the comfort of a home away from
home by having all the necessary gear for a few nights in nature.
Inspired by the two larger campers, the
almost 2-meter long bed features disc spring elements for enhanced
sleeping comfort. The interior sports a 1.4-square-meter panorama glass roof, which can be darkened, like all the windows, should the
passengers so desire.
The camping chairs and table from the
California models will also be on deck, stowed in the rear, and the practical
storage bags, which double as privacy screens inside when fastened in their
places, will be included as well.
A number of safety features will make the
new Mini-Camper, well, safer. These include the Travel Assist, which enables
assisted driving for the first time in a Volkswagen commercial vehicle, as well
as the Trailer Assist, Side-Assist and Rear Traffic Alert. The engine lineup
will comprise of several TDI diesels, which are less polluting and have outputs
ranging between 74 HP and 120 HP. A
turbocharged petrol engine, with 114 HP, will also be
available.
