Ford has revealed the new Tremor Off-Road
Package for the 2021 Ranger pickup truck, making it the most off-road capable
variant in the US range. The new Ford Ranger Tremor receives a range of
off-road goodies that are designed to make it go beyond the current FX4
Off-Road Package-equipped Ranger, including a lifted suspension, redesigned
front knuckles, and 32-inch Continental all-terrain tires on new 17-inch
wheels.
The result is a ground clearance of 9.7
inches – 0.8 inches more than the base Ranger SuperCrew 4×4. The suspension
makes use of Fox 2.0 monotube dampers with remote rear reservoirs and hydraulic
bump stops that are tuned for a more comfortable ride on paved road while
maintaining control on challenging off-road conditions.
The Tremor package also includes specially
tuned front and rear springs for better off-road composure, with the rear setup
still using a multi-leaf spring setup for increased wheel travel. In addition,
the stiffness of the anti-roll bar has been reduced to improve comfort off-road
and minimize disruption over rough terrain. The new 2021 Ford Ranger Tremor
offers better off-road figures than its siblings, with the approach angle now
at 30.9 degrees, 2.2 degrees more than the base SuperCrew 4×4, a 25.5-degree
departure angle, an increase of 0.1 degrees, and a 24.2-degree breakover angle,
up 2.7 degrees.
The suspension changes also mean that the
2021 Ford Ranger Tremor now offers 6.5 inches of suspension travel at the front
and 8.1 inches at the rear. The new package adds a frame-mounted steel front
bash plate, underbody skid plates, a rear locking differential, a Terrain
Management System with four drive modes, Trail Control, and a recalibrated
traction control system. Despite the improved off-road character of the new
Ranger Tremor, Ford’s pickup truck maintains the 1,430-pound maximum payload
and the 7,500-pound maximum towing capacity rating.
Styling features of the new Tremor
Off-Road Package include a front grille with black bars, red accents, and a
surround painted in Magnetic, special badging, and an optional graphics package
for the hood and bodywork. The interior of the new Ford Ranger Tremor gets
seats upholstered with Miko Suede inserts, ‘Tremor’ stitched into the seatbacks
and a six-switch auxiliary power bank mounted on the dash, allowing customers
to control aftermarket accessories like winches, extra lights, and air
compressors.
Power continues to come from Ford’s
2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, which produces 270 HP and 310 lb-ft of
torque and is paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission and a standard 4×4
system with a rear locking differential. The new Tremor Off-Road Package is now
available on the 2021 Ranger XLT and 2021 Ranger Lariat models with the
SuperCrew 4×4 configuration and is priced at US$ 4,290 MSRP. The first examples of
the 2021 Ford Ranger Tremor will enter production early next year.
