A new prototype for the upcoming Mercedes-Benz EQS has been the spied in the midst of testing and while the vehicle continues to be bathed in camouflage, the spy shot photographers were able to snap some interesting shots, in particular of the interior.
Starting with the cabin, it is clear that
the EQS shares many parts with the brand new Mercedes-Benz S-Class. For
example, there is the same flowing portrait-oriented touchscreen infotainment
system as well as the same digital instrument cluster. Whereas the S-Class has
a small storage cubby behind the infotainment screen, the dashboard of the EQS
instead occupies all of the space behind the screen.
These spy shots also confirm the EQS will
have the same sleek steering wheel as the new S-Class. As for the exterior
design, this is our best chance to see it up close and in relatively good
detail. The EQS has a sleek and smooth shape and includes retractable door
handles. It also appears to have a large panoramic roof. Look in more detail
and you may notice the prototype features its production-ready taillights.
While parts of the lights have been covered in camouflage, we can see a complex
LED lighting signature that will really make them stand out on the road.
Beyond its design, we know that the
Mercedes-Benz EQS will use the automaker’s Modular Electric Architecture (MEA)
and be built at the same Factory 56 facility in Sindelfingen, Germany as the
new S-Class. A plethora of variants will be offered with an entry-level model
expected to produce approximately 400 HP and at least one variant co-developed
with AMG set to deliver more than 600 HP. The most range-focused EQS model will
be able to travel more than 700 km on the WLTP testing cycle.
