The new DS 4 has been spied during hot weather testing in southern Europe and is shaping up to be a keen rival to the likes of the Audi A3, BMW 1-Series, and Mercedes-Benz A-Class.
There are conflicting reports about the
platform that will underpin the new DS 4. Clearly, the new DS 4 will share some
similarities to the Citroen C4 but whereas the Citroen will use the PSA Group’s
CMP architecture, some believe the DS 4 will use the Efficient Modular Platform
2 (EMP2) instead. This platform is shared with the likes of the Peugeot 308 and
DS 7 Crossback and will allow DS to sell the vehicle with a host of different
engines, including plug-in hybrids.
However, there remains a good chance the
car will in fact use PSA’s CMP platform. We will just have to wait and see.
This prototype has the production-ready body beneath all of its camouflage and
is certainly shaping up to be quite striking. The front-end will be
particularly eye-catching thanks to the presence of angular headlights and
vertical daytime running lights.
Elsewhere, the new DS 4 has quite an
aggressive roofline while at the rear, small taillights with interesting LED
graphics are visible. PSA can be expected to load the DS 4 with all of its
latest driver assistance systems, including some form of semi-autonomous
driving on well-marked roads. It is also speculated that an all-electric
variant could see the light of day.
We expects to see the new DS 4 premiere
early next year and if that’s the case, it will probably end up being a 2022
model.
