The forthcoming 2022 Genesis eG80 has been spied during a recent round of testing at the Nurburgring. Despite the all-electric powertrain, the vehicle’s weight, and its massive size, it appears to offer some rather impressive performance.
From a visual standpoint, there isn’t much
that distinguishes the eG80 from combustion-powered variants. Consequently, the
big sedan features the same overall design and includes the automaker’s quad
headlights and quad taillights.
The most obvious point of difference comes
at the front end where the sedan’s massive front grille has been closed off and
clad in black plastic as it is obviously not needed to cool an engine. This
prototype, like one our spy photographers snapped just a few weeks ago, also
has a set of classy multi-spoke wheels that further add to its refined appeal.
As for the interior, there should be no
real differences between the eG80 and regular G80 models. Admittedly, this
prototype does have a pair of Recaro seats and a roll cage but they are simply
there for testing purposes. Very little is known about the powertrain of the
electric Genesis, including how much horsepower and torque it will pump out,
but reports out of Korea indicate it will have a battery pack that’s large enough
to offer 500 km of driving range. Genesis is also expected to equip
the EV with the latest Level 3 autonomous driving suite developed by Hyundai
Motor Company and Samsung Electronics. CarScoops expects to see the Genesis
eG80, or G80 EV, premiere in 2021.
