Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 e-tron Sportback were spotted testing together in the Austrian Alps. The first of them to launch is the Q4 e-tron SUV, expected to have its unveiling before the end of this year and the sales start sometime in 2021. As for the Q4 e-tron Sportback, Audi will reportedly unveil it next year.
As these spy shots reveal, the major difference between the two electric crossovers will be the sloping roofline of the Sportback, which also determines a more steeply raked rear screen. Everything else should be pretty similar, including the horizontal taillights. While these prototypes are fully wrapped in camouflage foil, expect the production models to stay quite close to the styling of the Q4 e-tron Concept and Q4 Sportback e-tron Concept from 2019 and 2020, respectively.
As for their size, the ‘Q4’ in their names is pretty self-explanatory, indicating that they will slot between the Q3 and Q5 in the lineup – though with superior interior space than the latter given the more efficient packaging of the MEB platform. As with their siblings from Skoda and Volkswagen, the Q4 e-tron and Q4 e-tron Sportback will offer three batteries and five outputs. Base variants are expected to be RWD and feature a single 109 kW (146 HP) rear motor attached to a 55 kWh battery.
Range-topping models will get a dual-motor
setup for electric quattro AWD capability. If the Skoda Enyaq iV RS is anything
to go by, the top variants will have 225 kW (302 HP) and an 82 kWh
battery. The maximum driving range should be of around 510 km. The
Q4 e-tron and Q4 e-tron Sportback will be built alongside the VW ID.4 at the
Zwickau plant in Germany.
