The
latest version of Golf GTI has become available in Europe where the order books have just
opened. While we’ll have to wait until the end of next year to see the
new-generation of the golden standard of hot hatches in North America as a
2022MY, in Germany, you can get one with prices starting at € 37,607.38 (US$ 44,622) for the DSG-equipped model.
Powering Volkswagen’s Renault Megane RS
and Ford Focus ST rival is a
turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. It produces 245 PS and 370 Nm of torque, directed to the front axle through
a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, enabling
a 0-100 km/h acceleration of 6+ seconds and a 250 km/h electronically limited top speed.
The Golf GTI boasts sportier looks than
the rest of the lineup, though the design is anything but aggressive. In fact,
the optional X-shaped fog lights are probably the most defining features of the
compact hot hatch, alongside the different rear bumper, extended roof spoiler,
two rounded exhaust pipes and GTI emblems.
The signature tartan upholstery is still
on deck, while the rest of the cockpit is very well equipped, with standard
digital gauges and Discover Media infotainment system, or optional 10-inch
Discover Pro. The Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Monitoring, Lane
Assist, Car2X communication tech and others are also included.
