With the first units of the GR Yaris set
to be delivered in late 2020 and early 2021, Toyota’s Gazoo Racing division has
launched a selection of upgrades for the mean little hot hatch in Japan. The
most striking part is the new body kit that consists of the front and rear
spoiler extensions, side skirts and sporty quad exhaust pipes. Special stripes,
GR logos, carbon fiber license plate frames and valve caps are also available,
alongside a front strut tower bar with red edges.
A host of visual upgrades are available
inside and they include the carbon fiber-like inserts for the dashboard and
door cards, exclusive floor mats and luggage compartment map. There is also a
data recording device that can be plugged into the USB port, allowing drivers
to read the information by using a dedicated app.
The 1.6-liter turbocharged engine remains
stock, but it pumps out a very impressive for a subcompact hatchback, 268 HP and 370 Nm of torque in the version sold in
the Land of the Rising Sun. The Euro-spec model packs the same three-pot, but
with 257 HP and 360 Nm. The mill is matched to a
six-speed manual transmission and all-wheel drive, allowing the GR Yaris to hit 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds, from a standstill, and a 230 km/h limited top speed.
UK pricing starts at £ 29,995 (US$ 39,563) and
in Germany, it can be had from € 33,200 (US$ 39,257). The supermini hot hatch will
not arrive in the United States.
