Tesla is reportedly working on an updated Model 3 and it appears the vehicle was captured by a Twitter user. While initial reports suggested the changes would be “significant enough that people other than Elon Musk would call it a refresh,” the updates look pretty minor.
As you can see, the changes appear limited
to dark window surrounds and a revised center console which is covered by a
thin sheet of paper. Those updates are hardly earth shattering, but they’re
reportedly just the tip of the iceberg.
According to Electrek, the Model 3 will
get a “chrome delete” option for the exterior as well as double-paned glass and
a “powered trunk gate like in the Model Y.” As the photos suggest, bigger
updates will happen in the cabin. Among the rumored changes are a new headliner
and a revised center console that features matte black trim, chrome accents and
a sliding door that echoes the one used in the Model S and Model X. There could
also be an updated wireless smartphone charging area and repositioned cup
holders which lack chrome surrounds.
While the changes will likely be welcomed
by the Tesla faithful, they aren’t very drastic. Of course, that’s hardly
surprising as the company eschews traditional model year updates for gradual
changes over the cours of a vehicle’s lifecycle. Considering the updated Model
3 is already in production, it’s likely just a matter of time before Tesla
makes it official.
